THC Oil Tincture

DIY Full Spectrum THC Oil Tincture

Oil based tinctures offer several advantages over alcohol-based tinctures. One of the main advantages is that MCT oil, which is derived from coconut oil, is a more efficient carrier for the THC and other cannabinoids than alcohol. This means that the THC is more bioavailable, by adding lecithin we can further improve the bioavailability. MCT tinctures also have a less harsh taste than alcohol-based tinctures, making them more convenient for sublingual use. While the tincture can be made without hemp, the addition of CBD, minor cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids obtained from the hemp flower greatly improves the effect of the tincture.

Ingredients/Equipment

MCT Coconut oil
– Soy lecithin liquid (Optional)
– 28g Distillate/concentrate
– 28-56g Hemp flower
– Mason Jar
25ml Pyrex beaker
– Strainer
Cheesecloth
30ml Tincture bottles

Directions

1) Prepare your hemp by grinding it down and decarboxylating it.
2) Place the decarboxylated flower in a mason jar and cover it with MCT coconut oil. Allow this mixture to sit for a minimum of one week. Alternatively the solution can be heated to speed up the steeping process. You will need enough decarboxylated flower to produce 425ml of infused oil. The amount required for this will vary based on your starting material and personal preference.
3) Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer and cheesecloth into a mason jar.
4) Heat up and weigh out a desired amount of cannabinoid concentrate or distillate into an oven safe container. If your concentrate is in the acid form be sure to decarboxylate it before moving on. Cover the mixture with 75ml of MCT oil. Add 1 tsp soy lecithin liquid to aid in absorption (this is optional but recommended). Heat the mixture and stir until the concentrate is fully dissolved. Combine the concentrate solution with 425ml of the hemp solution and stir vigorously.
5) If you started with 85% distillate the final product will be roughly 50mg/ml of your active distillate along with wide spectrum extract from the hemp. You can adjust the concentration to your desired dosage by adding more MCT oil. To calculate the dosage, divide the total number of milligrams by the total volume in milliliters. The outcome will give you the dosage per milliliter, which is roughly equivalent to the volume of a standard dropper used in tincture bottles. There is also a tincture dosage calculator located here.

Notes

This tincture can be taken under the tongue without the burning sensation that is typical of alcohol-based tinctures. Additionally, it can be added to food or creamy beverages such as eggnog. The addition of CBN makes this tincture an ideal choice for use before bed.
